Koneen Säätiö tukee humanistista, yhteiskuntatieteellistä ja ympäristöntutkimusta sekä taiteellista tutkimusta. Näille aloille on haettavana:

-tutkijastipendejä väitöskirjan tekijöille ja post doc –tutkijoille
-hankerahoitusta
-tietokirjoittamisen apurahoja tietokirjojen kirjoittamiseen ja kääntämiseen sekä rahoitusta suomenkielisille tieteellisille lehdille.

Haettavana on myös hankerahoitusta aiheesta väestönmuutos. Lisäksi voidaan myöntää rahoitusta taiteen ja kulttuurin hankkeille.

Three PhD and Postdoctoral Stipends in Philosophy and Neuroscience

The unit of Prof. Markus Werning within the Mercator Research Group Structure of Memory invites applications for three PhD or postdoctoral stipends:

D. PhD Stipend in Philosophy of Mind and Language
The candidate will have a strong background in philosophy of mind and language. Knowledge in logic and/or formal semantics is required. Some experience in linguistics, psychology, or computer science would be welcome. The candidate should have a vivid interest in neurophilosophical approaches and be open to integrating experimental work.
E. PhD or Postdoctoral Stipend in Neurolinguistics or Cognitive Neuroscience (EEG)
The candidate will have a strong background in neurolinguistics or cognitive neuroscience. Experience in human EEG is required. 64 and 128 channel EEG systems and an acoustically and electrically isolated EEG cabin will be available. Experience in time/frequency analysis, coherence measurement, and/or beam forming is welcome. Opportunities for collaborations involving fMRI will be given. The candidate should have a vivid interest in the neural processes underlying language comprehension.
F. Cognitive Neuroscience (fMRI)
The candidate will have a strong background in cognitive neuroscience. Experience in human fMRI is required. A 3T human scanner will be available. Opportunities for collaborations involving EEG will be given. The candidate should have a vivid interest in higher cognition and should be open to foundational issues relating to all facets of the human mind.

The Mercator Research Group Structure of Memory investigates episodic and semantic memory processes and their relation to other cognitive functions. It is founded by the Stiftung Mercator, one of Germany´s largest foundations, and comprises a diverse and interdisciplinary team of philosophers and experimental as well as theoretical neuroscientists.

Prof. Werning's unit develops an integrative theory that positions the topic "memory" in wider context of other cognitive functions. On the one hand, the unit explores the
relationship between semantic memory and conceptual representation. A main aspect here is the neural realization of conceptual representation and the role semantic memory plays in the constitution of linguistic meaning. On the other hand, they will investigate the relationship between episodic memory and the experience of time, the envisioning of past and future as well as personal identity.

The main language of communication within the group is English. PhD students will be encouraged to join RUB´s International Graduate School of Neuroscience (IGSN). Postdocs will have moderate teaching obligations. Stipends will be competitive. Please address inquiries and applications to Prof. Markus Werning. JOINT NORDIC USE OF WAB BERGEN AND VWA HELSINKI (JNU VWAB) (2008-2010)

The Wittgenstein Archives at the University of Bergen (WAB) and the Georg Henrik von Wright Archives at the University of Helsinki (VWA) have been awarded financial support by NordForsk for the "Joint Nordic Use of WAB Bergen and VWA Helsinki" (JNU VWAB) project. The project will run from 1.1.2008 until 31.12.2010. Through this project, Nordic researchers are offered stipends for coordinated and supported use of WAB and VWA.

Selection of projects to be carried out under JNU VWAB will follow call and evaluation procedures. Nordic researchers can propose short-term (up to 1,5 months) single user or user group projects to be conducted at WAB or VWA, pertaining to the following areas: (1) Wittgenstein research and philosophy, (2) Digital scholarly editing, text technology and digital humanities, (3) Fields of intersection between (1) and (2). User group projects and proposals pertaining to (3) are particularly encouraged. Applications in response to this call can propose projects to be carried out in the period 1.9.2008-31.12.2010.

Project proposals will be evaluated and selected by the JNU VWAB Management committee. Participants of selected projects are granted  reimbursement of travel expenses, accomodation and living expenses, and use of WAB or VWA free of charge for the agreed duration of the project.

Eligibility of research groups and researchers:
Researchers of any citizenship are eligible for benefitting under JNU
VWAB, as long as they are based in a Nordic country/affiliated to a research institution in the Nordic countries. "Nordic" refers in this context to the Nordic and Baltic countries and North-West Russia (Denmark DK, Estonia EE, Finland FIN, Iceland IS, Latvia LV, Lithuania LT, Norway NO, Russia RU, Sweden SE).

Deadline:
The deadline for reception of project proposals in response to this call is 14.5.2008. Applicants are informed of the results of the evaluation procedure at latest within 4 weeks after the deadline.
