Suomen Filosofinen Yhdistys ry. järjestää 8.-9.1.2007 Tampereen yliopistossa perinteisen "yhden sanan kollokvion", jonka teemana on tällä kertaa KUVA.
Kutsuttujen esitelmien lisäksi ohjelmaan sisällytetään myös tarjottuja suomen- tai ruotsinkielisiä esitelmiä. Yhtä esitelmää varten on varattu aikaa 30 minuuttia (keskusteluineen). Kollokvio rakentuu kahdesta rinnakkaisesta sessiosta.
Esitelmissä voidaan käsitellä esimerkiksi seuraavia kuvaan liittyviä teemoja:
Esitelmän pitämisestä kiinnostuneilta pyydämme alustavaa otsikkoa ja noin 400 sanan (yhden sivun) abstraktia 30.9.2006 mennessä. Tarjotut abstraktit arvioidaan.
Otsikon ja abstraktin pyydämme lähettämään FT Timo Klemolalle (osoite: Matematiikan, tilastotieteen ja filosofian laitos, 33014 Tampereen yliopisto; sähköposti: ).

Arrangörskommittéen: 2006 C.S. Peirce Essay Contest
Sponsored by The Charles S. Peirce Society
Topic: Any topic on or related to the work of Charles Sanders Peirce. Length: Papers should not exceed the length of an average journal article. The presentation of the winning submission at the annual meeting cannot exceed 30 minutes reading time. Open to: Graduate students and persons who have held a Ph.D. or its equivalent for no more than seven years. Awards: $500 cash prize; presentation at the Society's annual meeting (held in conjunction with the Eastern APA); possible publication in the Society's Transactions.
Advice to Essay Contest Entrants: Winning entries must make a genuine contribution to the literature on Peirce. Entrants are therefore advised to become familiar with the major currents of work on Peirce to date, and to take care in their submissions to locate their views in relation to published material that bears directly on their topic. Very often, the development of Peirce's philosophical positions will need to be mentioned explicitly; as even submissions which focus on a single stage in that development can benefit from noting the stage on which they are focusing in reference to other phases of Peirce's treatment of the topic under consideration. This does not express a bias toward chronological studies of Peirce's thought, only an insistence on a chronologically informed understanding of whatever topic is explored. Moreover, contestants are encouraged to relate, even if only summarily or briefly, Peirce's treatment of a topic with contemporary discussions of the matter being considered. Establishing the relevance of Peirce's thought to the ongoing debates in contemporary philosophy and indeed other disciplines is here a desideratum. We do not require but strongly encourage, where appropriate, citation of The Writings of Charles S. Peirce: A Chronological Edition. Ideally, citation of texts found in both the Collected Papers and The Writings should be to both CP and W.
Deadline: 30 September 2006 Submissions should be prepared for blind evaluation.

Departure for Modern Europe - Philosophy between 1400 and 1700/Aufbruch ins moderne Europa - Philosophie zwischen 1400 und 1700/Départ vers l'Europe moderne - La philosophie entre 1400 et 1700
Essen, Haus der Technik, 26 - 30 March 2007
The /European Society for Early Modern Philosophy / Europäische Gesellschaft für frühneuzeitliche Philosophie e.V. / Société européenne pour les débuts de la philosophie moderne (ESEMP)/ is a European forum for scholars and scientific institutions, investigating early modern philosophy within its European context.
From March 26th to March 30th 2007 the ESEMP organises its first international congress in cooperation with the Kulturwissenschaftliches Institut Essen (KWI) in Essen.
The congress will look back upon theories of modernization in the last decades. The intention is to take stock of those tendencies for a departure for modernity, which by now have become the subject of different disciplines - a fragmentation that was alien to early modern thought. In which areas do the sciences or philosophy reflecting them pursue certain linear paths of development leading to modernity (comprehensively understood)? And where does it remain committed to tradition? Are their roots really - as has often been suggested - a kind of inner logic guiding this process of e.g. economization mechanization, secularization, individualizing, mechanization of the understanding of nature, deteleologization of the ethics, neutralization of the state etc.?
It is the intention of the congress to survey the state of research in this field and to open up new perspectives in twenty panels and five workshops.
For your contribution the organizer requests either an abstract clarifying the scope and aims of the paper and its central theses, which should not exceed 5000 characters, or a complete paper including an abstract. The reading time should not exceed 30 minutes.
Both kinds of contribution have to be sent only electronically as RTF file (Times New Roman, 12 pts, 1,5 lines, specification of Name, affiliation, mail and email address) until September 30th 2006 to
Provisory profiles of the sections and workshops as well as further information on the invited papers can be found under http://www.kongress.esemp.de
Organizer: ESEMP (President: Prof. Dr. Hubertus Busche; Secretary: Dr. Stefan Hessbrüggen-Walter)
